The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Annual Festival – also known as Coachella – is an annual three-day music festival occurring through the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. The Coachella experience is defined by its diverse and inclusive lineup of musical genres, including rock, indie, hip hop and electronic music. Acts are hosted through a variety of stages including the Coachella Stage, Outdoor Theatre, Gobi Tent, Mojave Tent, and the Sahara Tent.
In years past, countless high-profile artists have played Coachella. Recent acts include Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, Prince, Paul McCartney, Arcade Fire, Wu-Tang Clan, Duran Duran, Radiohead, Oasis, Daft Punk, Madonna, The Cure, Kanye West, The Black Keys, Rage Against the Machine, Beck, Gorillaz, ACDC, Pavement and Jay-Z.
This year’s lineup is more diverse in recent years, featuring Guns and Rose as the headliner. Hence, a lot of music to choose from for a single mix, too much.
If you have listened to my previous mixes you may have noticed I stay pretty much true to form when putting together a mixtape, maxing out at 80 minutes, the length of a CD. I was tempted to go much longer than that considering the amount of artists and music that will be playing at Coachella. However, that wouldn’t be any fun, anyone can put together a 3hr playlist. For me part of the creative process is the selection and timing of the music that enables the listener to embark on an energetic musical journey. The music and artists I selected for this particular mix set the vibe for a great Pre or Post Coachella party. It’s also great for the drive through the desert or if you can’t make it this year let it push you through a workout or last mile of your run. What’s this mix really all about? Think about the stereotypical fans of LCD Soundsystem, Guns N’Roses and Calvin Harris. Now imagine thousands of them out in the middle of nowhere with tons of party supplies and very little water. For two consecutive weekends. Welcome to the jungle. Except it’s the desert! Now #danceyourfaceoff!!!
